| Marriage Date Correction: The Simpson Genealogy, originally compiled by Rev. Z.L. Holmes, revised by Richard Wright Simpson (1897) and copied by W.W. Simpson (1898) has the incorrect date of Dec. 5, 1844 as the marriage date for Rev. Z.L. Holmes and his wife, Nancy Catherine Nickels. The Z.L. Holmes Family Bible (1845), a primary source, has their marriage date as Dec. 4, 1844 and should be used. | |

as referenced in the "Memorial" by W.P. Jacobs and the Minutes
of
Synod of South Carolina is incorrect. Correct date of death is
January 27, 1885 as found in the Z.L. Holmes Family Bible (1845). J.A.
Holmes II wrote in a letter dated September 23, 1974 to Ms. Billie
Allen of Laurens,
